| Strategic planning for a city Information Services
organization |

A large city CIO had a vision
for information services (IS) in the city and several contractors had
developed technology plans of varying breadths and levels of
detail. But he wanted a single, comprehensive IS strategic plan to
achieve the vision, integrate all the plans, and focus on the
organization's mission as a whole, not just the technology. To
complicate the engagement, most of the people in the organization were
contractors for two different companies. |

Strategic Perspectives
organized and led three days of meetings to identify the objectives,
define strategies, and outline potential actions to achieve the
vision. Personnel were to write the plan with support and
editorial guidance from us, but operational pressures resulted in
Strategic Perspectives being asked to interact with personnel and write
the vast majority of the plan. |
